Player's Guide

A brief introduction to the user interface in Lost Legends of Redwall: Escape the Gloomer. This guide highlights key section of the gameplay experience that are useful to new players.

Gameplay

MAIN CONTENT AREA

The primary gameplay vehicle for The Lost Legends of Redwall: Escape the Gloomer is the command text box featured at the bottom of the player command interface. This is where you must weigh your situational options and decide the path you would like Gillig the Otter to go.

TEXT COMMAND INPUT

In this text based Conversational Adventure™ game, players type in commands to direct the main character, Gillig the Otter. There is a modern, proprietary, English language system that allows you to be creative in what you enter. Once you decide, the game responds by narrating your story.

For comfortable reading, there are Next and Previous buttons for pagination and a Resume button for times when the player has navigated back several pages. There are also Pause and Jump Back buttons to control the audio. The text is accompanied by 20 professional voice actors. The font size and background opacity of the Story Text Panel can be adjusted in the menu system, which can be accessed via the menu button on the upper right hand side of the game. Five different font colors are used to highlight various information (e.g. flashbacks, achievements).

PAWPERS METER PROGRESS BAR

The game features Pawpers, icons in the shape of a paw print that are displayed on the Pawper Meter at the top left hand side of the screen. This allows players to see their progress as they advance through the chapters. Game progress is automatically saved; players can exit and resume the game from where they left off without having to do anything extra. Finally, gameplay can be made more challenging by turning off autohints – automatically provide clues to assist your progress through challenges that may arise. The game can last from 10 to 15 hours depending on your skill, contains over 40,000 words of text, and over 4.5 hours of (often British) dialogue to delight both Redwall fans and those who are new to the Lost Legends of Redwall series.
